The Cleveland Metroparks system was founded in 1917 by a group of citizens who were concerned about the loss of green space in the city of Cleveland. The system now consists of 21 parks that are spread out over eight counties. The Hinckley Reservation is one of the crown jewels of the system. The reservation is named after Dr. William J. Hinckley, who was the first superintendent of the Cleveland Metroparks. He was a man who was ahead of his time. He believed that people needed to have access to nature in order to live healthy lives. The Hinckley Reservation covers over 5,000 acres of land. It is home to many different species of plants and animals. There are also several ponds and streams that are perfect for fishing.
